US fracking rules met with anger by environmentalists.

FT: The US Department of the Interior publishes regulations for fracking – only applying to federal land – that provoke anger from environmentalists. “As the first new federal rules on fracking since the Environmental Protection Agency set out regulations on air pollution a year ago, they have been closely watched as a pointer to the administration’s general attitude. The EPA is studying the risk of water pollution from fracking, and is expected to propose regulations next year. / Under the new rules, companies fracking on federal and tribal lands would be compelled to disclose chemicals they use, show that fracking fluids cannot leak from their wells, and confirm they will dispose of waste water properly. …..Frances Beinecke, of the Natural Resources Defense Council: “These rules protect industry, not people. They are riddled with gaping holes that endanger clean, safe drinking water supplies for millions of Americans.”
