Republicans: US shale exports can wean EU off Russian gas.

FT: “The US should make it easier for Europeans to buy American natural gas in order to reduce its allies’ dependence on Russian energy, the top Republican in the House of Representatives has said.”
“John Boehner’s statement on Tuesday brought national security concerns into the centre of a debate on how the US should use supplies of oil and gas from its shale production boom.
….On Monday, Fred Upton, the Republican chairman of the House energy and commerce committee, said the US needed to help eastern Europe in particular get affordable access to energy from sources other than Russia.
“Expanding US LNG exports is an opportunity to combat Russian influence and power, and we have an energy diplomacy responsibility to act quickly,” he said in a statement.”
