Hungarian government repression forces Soros Open Society Foundations to retreat to Berlin

The hate campaign now leads to “Stop Soros” legislation that requires NGOs to have a government licence in order to represent refugees, the foundations report.

Patrick Gaspard, president of the Open Society Foundations: “The government of Hungary has denigrated and misrepresented our work and repressed civil society for the sake of political gain, using tactics unprecedented in the history of the European Union.” …”The government’s hate campaign has included propaganda posters and billboards, invoking anti-Semitic imagery from World War II.”

My thought: it is difficult to understate how awful it is to see this reprise of fascism in the heart of old Europe, and even worse that it comes at a time where potentially perfect apparatus for endless police states is being developed by the tech industry at breakneck speed, almost totally unregulated.
