“There are no roadblocks on the way to a 100% renewable future …all issues can be addressed at low cost”

This is the conclusion of an international group of scientists systematically working through the counter-arguments of a pro-nuclear group. They come from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany, the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and Aalborg University in Denmark.

The image shows primary energy consumption (grey and green) versus useful energy services (blue) in today’s versus tomorrow’s energy system (from the source article and references therein). It makes clear the importance of energy efficiency in renewable supply.

Hardly surprisingly, I agree with this team. Yesterday afternoon, for a while, solar energy was the single biggest source of power supply to London.
