Bank of England warns that AI threatens lengthy and widespread unemployment in the UK

Andy Haldane, Chief Economist: more disruption than the first industrial revolution (coal and steam), second industrial revolution (chemical engineering and the combustion engine), or the digital revolution.

It seems to me that this makes the case for green energy jobs even more imperative. Stand by for a new edition of the case for a Green New Deal in the UK in a few weeks time.

  1. The chief economist of the Bank of England has warned that the UK will need a skills revolution to avoid “large swathes” of people becoming “technologically unemployed” as artificial intelligence makes many jobs obsolete.
