Of the top 50 tech startups by value, 26 are Chinese and 16 are American, with none from Europe

Of the top 20, 11 are Chinese, 6 are American and 2 are Indian. As Sequoia Capital partner Michael Moritz puts it in the FT: “China is winning the global tech race.”

It is interesting to reflect on what could be accomplished if these two nations were to pool their tech capabilities – at least to some extent – and work together to build a viable future. Instead, it could be this kind of competition that ultimately dooms us, as things stand: a technical race to the bottom wherein neglected degradation of the global environment ultimately exceeds and then overwhelms any prosperity gains by dint of tech innovation. Probably involving war along the way, if so.
